good talk. and I actually dig the fact that you talk about whatever thoughts/issues you’ve been working through the past week. I appreciate that honesty
This post is long over due. I attended service this past Sunday. The messege was encouraging and for the first time in a while I felt completely comfortable in church.
The Associate Pastor Vince was especially welcoming.
One, among many, of the compelling points Pastor Jays made was that if we could learn to tolerate each other we might actually learn from each other. This in reference to people being more respectful with one another and keeping peace even in differences. Learning instead of arguing and excommunicating.
My convictions on gay marriage, abortion, various political and social issues contradict most “Christian” certainties. At this I feel alienated, resulting in a feud with a right-wing republican or a bitter venting session with my girlfriend.
All this to say, after listening to Pastor Jays message I believe that instead of resorting to a defensive argument, refusing to hear any other point of view I should listen. Hear others perspective without immediately reacting in anger.
I refuse to agree with certain beliefs, and Ill never say some things are a sin. Theres still a lot I dont understand. But in light of this service, Ill do well to listen more than fight. Maintain peace and respect, even agree to disagree…maybe even learn something.
Its a long drive from Staten Island, but I cant wait to go again in the near future!
