Greetings from Brooklyn!
September is truly my favorite month here in New York. The air has a gentleness to it that seems to just suspend time for a while. On a beautiful September afternoon, I can feel the presence of God and His promise to love us and hold our hands through the rough times.
This promise that September reminds me of, became all the more real on this day, Sept 11th, 8 years ago. The city that I love had been attacked. The people that I love had been threatened. Yet, as I flew over the city shortly after the attacks, and witnessed the smoke rising from Ground Zero, I knew that even though God was weeping, He was still here.
With God’s help, this great city survived. With God’s help it is doing more than that; it is thriving. God is truly working in and through this city, keeping it as a beacon shining brightly, proclaiming the all God’s children can truly live together in harmony.
We here at Revolution are so happy to be a part of this dream. The fall season is bringing many activities that we are excited about.
We are proud to announce another film screening in our on going series. This Tuesday, September 15th at 8 pm we be screening the film, Small Town Gay Bar at Legion, (790 Metropolitan Ave @ Humboldt in Williamsburg, Brooklyn). A donation of $10 qualifies for raffle prizes, with proceeds benefiting the Brooklyn Community Pride Center (BCPC). Miss Cakes spins post-screening tunes and representatives from BCPC will be in attendance to speak with audience members about volunteer opportunities.
Sunday the 20th we have two special events. The first is our “2nd annual 100 miles radius picnic” at 1:30 at McCarren Park across the street from Urban Rustic, 236 N 12th Street. After the picnic at 4 at Pete’s Candy Store we welcome Samir Selmanovic, author of the soon to be released, “It’s Really All About God“. We are so excited about having Samir with us. We hope that if you can’t join us in person, that you catch his talk online.
Also, it is great pleasure that I announce that our head pastor, Jay Bakker, will be the recipient of the PEGGY CAMPOLO CARRIER PIGEON AWARD. This award recognizes Jay for his giving of love, support, and a voice to the misunderstood children of God. It is a part of the Open Door Community Church of Little Rock, Arkansas’ annual fall conference. Both Jay and myself will be there to celebrate. If you are in the mid-south area it would be great to see you. The conference is open to the public, for more info, please click here.
Finally, we are planing a special fundraiser in the coming months and have need of flyers. We are wondering if there are any printer type folks out there that would be willing to donate some flyers to us. If so, please send an email to hello@revolutionnyc.com
