Help For Haiti

Dear friends,

The destruction that has devastated Haiti has been heavy in our hearts the last couple of weeks. Like all of us, I have been watching the news reports in disbelief. I can’t help but believe that God is with the people of Haiti and in fact was crushed with them, and is now living among them, suffering with them, crying with them.

We are the hands and feet of God here on Earth, and we are called to minister to those in need. I know many of you have already heard the call, and are doing all you can. I would like to suggest two more ways you can help.

Through Tony and Bart Compollo, I have had the chance to meet some leaders involved in two organizations that have been very active in Haiti before the earthquake, and are working hard in the aftermath of the quake. I urge you to check out both, Beyond Borders,  and Haiti Partners.

Through the Evangelical Association for the Promotion of Education a giving page has been set up to collect donations for the work that both of these organizations are doing.

I strongly encourage you to read Kent Annan’s book of his experiences in Haiti.

I also encourage you to sign the petition asking U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, to please work to secure the immediate cancellation of Haiti’s $1 billion debt and ensure that any emergency earthquake assistance is provided in the form of grants, not debt-incurring loans. Sign the petition here.

In GRACE,
Jay Bakker
