I hope that summer is going great for all of you. I’ve been having a good time here in Brooklyn enjoying all the summertime activities that NYC has to offer. The other night I went to Prospect Park and saw the National in concert, they were amazing!

Vince and I have been hard at work this summer developing better ways to communicate with all of you. We went to Eastern University for the Institute for Non-Profit Excellence, put on by our friends at EAPE and got really inspired.

Watch for weekly videos from the both of us as well as on-line office hours. Stay tuned to the website for info on all that! As for now, the big news is that we will be LIVE STREAMING our weekly services. Go here at 4 pm ET every Sunday to watch. We will continue our regular audio podcasting as well. On top of that, we are continuing the live streaming of our book study group. We are currently studying Brian McClaren’s “A New Kind of Christianity”. We meet every other Wednesday at 6:30 pm ET, with the next meeting being August 4th. To tune in and participate in the discussion, go HERE. Also, join the Revolution Book Club on Facebook, for further discussion.

I am amazed at all the emails we have been getting lately thanking us for existing. It is a testament to our mission of communicating and ministering the gospel of grace to everyone regardless of belief system, gender, race, class, or sexual orientation. We want to continue to provide that space both here in Brooklyn, and around the world via our website.

We cannot continue to do all this without your support. We get no funding from a denomination, or other church body. Nor do we currently receive any grants. One hundred percent of our funding comes from you. I humbly ask that you prayerfully consider making a regular contribution to Revolution NYC.

To help further continue this ministry, click HERE.
Thank you in advance for your support.

In Grace,
Jay Bakker

Caroline and Kalen are running the ING New York City Marathon with Team World Vision on November 7 to help change lives in Africa and around the world.

World Vision is the largest privately-funded humanitarian organization in the United States, and they’re present in 100 countries around the world. They raise awareness and funds for children and communities in need by providing education, relief supplies, shelter, food distribution, access to safe drinking water, and medical care.

Will you make a tax-deductible donation to support our efforts?

From Caroline:

Kalen was one of my first friends in NY when I moved here 5 years ago, and she’s one of the reasons I started running. She’s a seasoned marathon runner, and in discussing this year’s marathon, we decided it would be an honor to raise money for World Vision and run for a reason.

So I’m doing it – I’m running the NYC marathon for the first time Nov 7! And I can’t think of a better organization to support.

For those of you interested in a few facts about the marathon:
Two million people line the streets to cheer on the runners; 315 million people watch on television; and almost 45,000 participants cross the finish line in Central Park after running 26.2 miles through every borrow of New York. So it’s an emotional experience to say the least!

From Kalen:

I am so excited to be running the NY marathon again….and with Caroline! I’m proud of her for taking on this challenge and am glad to be raising money to support such worthy and relevant causes. Thanks for everyone’s support, and thanks to Caroline for connecting with a great charity and letting me join her in her efforts.

- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -

When reading about World Vision’s work, three things stood out:
1. Their efforts to prepare for hurricane season in the Gulf Coast.

Louisiana has been struggling with the effects of the oil spill. As part of World Vision’s constant international disaster response, they have response supplies in 10 sites across the country and are on alert to respond as hurricane season begins.

2. Their long-term presence in Haiti and their relief response to the earthquake.

The earthquake in Haiti killed 230,000 people, and left 1 million homeless and 2 million in need of aid. World Vision has worked in Haiti for more than 30 years. Every day, the 800 local staff in Haiti serve more than 300,000 children, and they have a constant stock of relief supplies, ready to go if there’s a disaster.

3. Their work with communities in Africa.

Lack of access to safe water is the number one cause of preventable death in the world, and 20% of people in the world do not have access to safe drinking water. When a community gains access to safe water, infant mortality rates are cut in half, school attendance increases by 80%, and crops and livestock thrive. World Vision works with community to find long-term solutions for clean water wells, maintenance training and hygiene and sanitation practices.

World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. World Vision serves all people regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or gender.

A group of us are going to go see the new pop opera Little Death together Friday July 16th, 8pm and we would love for you to join us!

‘The Little Death: Vol. 1′ – Matt Marks’s “post-Christian nihilist pop opera” The Little Death: Vol. 1 follows two characters, a boy and a girl, on a journey through the world of Fundamentalist Evangelism as they cope with repressed sexuality in a modern world. The score mashes together catchy electro-pop songs, alt-classical compositions, and southern gospel standards in a manner that is both inviting and unsettling.

Tickets are $ 18 general admission and $14 for students. Click here to get your ticket.
