My response is a little late but I just read this and it relates to a Star Trek Next Generation episode I just saw...cause I'm a dork. So basically Picard and the crew come to make "first contact" with a planet that knows nothing about other life forms. Although many people are curious and open to something that is different from what they've always known, others are quite scared. This is to be expected with human nature--probably animals as well. I'm not going to touch the back and forth that's been going on because EVERYone is entitled to their own opinions and belief system...however, being the nerd I am, I shall leave you with a quote from the episode I sited: "My people are not ready to accept what you represent....We must slow down - allow those who are like him to join us in the present, before we can move into the future. "

If we all show tolerance, perhaps everyone will somehow catch up to the idea of loving all beings equally.

Being a same sex attracted individual who has studied this back and forth over the years, and who has been everything from a married Assemblies of God minister to a gay activist, I have come to the conclusion FOR ME that I am called to live a celibate life.

I do not judge those who think otherwise, but I would say that there is room in the Bible for either interpretation, and SOLA SCRIPTURA alone does not answer the question for me.

In short let us respect one another's views on this and never assume that those on either side of this issue are "less Christian" than the other, but rather dialogue and love each other all the way to heaven. And both gay and straight Christians (and a few other surprises, such as some Muslims and Jewish folks of good will who are seeking God as they understand Him to be) will be there as we clasp hands and hearts together before the throne of Almighty God.

Please re-read my message. I was not saying that god told her that. i'm saying it is possible she was confused. There are many times that we get "gods Voice" confused with "our voice". She may honestly believe god told her that. weather he did i'm not sure. i wasn't raising the point of weather homosexuality is a sin, i was saying that its funny/kinda childish for you to ASUME that she is prejudice.

Also just because you "think" you know have the answer on weather it is a sin, once again. dont judge/asume that i haven't researched it myself and tried to look really deep into it. honestly i have many times. I listened and tried to do some studies with things jay has said and others have said. I also have looked into it myself. personally i believe it is a sin. i think anyone can twist things in the bible to make it say something they want to really believe. I could find many ways to say that murder isn't a sin if i "look deep" into the bible and twist things.

I'm sorry, i'm really sick of this "make the bible say whatever you want it to say" movement. (and i'm not some oldschool dude, i'm only 25) but i believe we can no keep changing what is a sin and what isn't acording to "culture."

first of all, its my opinion, and i write on this thing. you don't have to agree, its just fine f you don't. its meant as something to get people talking. When i was growing up in the church, i had lots of questions and i was not allowed to ask them. We think its important to be able to ask those questions and seek answers. to speak those things your told not to. we all are individuals and therefor have different ideas and opinions. personally, i question a lot of things about faith and how christian represent the faith to the world. one of the things that makes Revolution great is that it is a space where we don't always have to agree. We can have different views on things and talk about them.

as far as Ms Prejean goes, i'm not totally sure what your trign to say in the end there, but i assume that you are telling me not to Judge her cus God might have really told her something. My point in the post is this: if you really study the bible, you will find that it is not anti gay and homosexuality is not a sin. its there, you just gotta learn how to do some research and understand fact and fiction and politics and all the other stuff that taints translations. SO: her saying that it is her belief in God and the bible that allows her to praise the refusal of civil rights, is outlandish. The bible doesn't do that. But people like the hide their prejudices behind God.

wow, i really love what you guys have been doing at revolution and i did read the disclaimer, but i'm still not sure this last article was something that "if it doesn't represent revolution, with such STRONG "STATEMENTS" why would you put it up?"

The part where she said she felt that god was telling her that stuff and the dude who wrote the blog said BULLSHIT and that she was using god for her predjudice... How dare you man? Do you personally know her? Take the plank out of your eye dude. your talking about "how its so wrong of her to use god in that way, while your JUDGING HER? you have no idea if she is really predjudice or not. Sure she might be "confused" about when it is her own beliefs or her conscious of what she believes or if its really god or not...but how can you say BULL SHIT ITS BECAUSE SHE IS WRONGLY BEING MEAN TO HOMOSEXUALS. i'm sorry you feel this way.

Welcome with open arms fellow believers who don't see things the way you do. And don't jump all over them every time they do or say something you don't agree with—even when it seems that they are strong on opinions but weak in the faith department. Remember, they have their own history to deal with. Treat them gently.

If there are corrections to be made or manners to be learned, God can handle that without your help. Each person is free to follow the convictions of conscience.

None of us are permitted to insist on our own way in these matters. It's God we are answerable to—all the way from life to death and everything in between—not each other. That's why Jesus lived and died and then lived again: so that he could be our Master across the entire range of life and death, and free us from the petty tyrannies of each other.

So where does that leave you when you criticize a brother? And where does that leave you when you condescend to a sister? I'd say it leaves you looking pretty silly—or worse. Eventually, we're all going to end up kneeling side by side in the place of judgment, facing God. Your critical and condescending ways aren't going to improve your position there one bit. Read it for yourself in Scripture:

“‘As I live and breathe,’ God says,
‘every knee will bow before me;
Every tongue will tell the honest truth
that I and only I am God.’”

So tend to your knitting. You've got your hands full just taking care of your own life before God.

Forget about deciding what's right for each other. Here's what you need to be concerned about: that you don't get in the way of someone else, making life more difficult than it already is. I'm convinced—Jesus convinced me!—that everything as it is in itself is holy. We, of course, by the way we treat it or talk about it, can contaminate it. These, remember, are persons for whom Christ died.

Your task is to single-mindedly serve Christ. Do that and you'll kill two birds with one stone: pleasing the God above you and proving your worth to the people around you.

So let's agree to use all our energy in getting along with each other. Help others with encouraging words; don't drag them down by finding fault. You're certainly not going to permit an argument to wreck God's work among you, are you? Cultivate your own relationship with God, but don't impose it on others. You're fortunate if your behavior and your belief are coherent. But if you're not sure, if you notice that you are acting in ways inconsistent with what you believe—some days trying to impose your opinions on others, other days just trying to please them—then you know that you're out of line. If the way you live isn't consistent with what you believe, then its wrong.

(From St. Paul’s letter to the Romans, chapter 14, as translated by Eugene Peterson.)

Although I believe that homosexuality is NOT wrong, my spouse does believe it is wrong. In this case, we're talking about someone who was raised in a fairly liberal environment where homosexuality was considered pretty ok and who graduated with a Christian Studies degree and went to attend seminary. It was this learning that lead to the conviction that homosexual acts are immoral -- not because a bias was blamed on God. This is not to say that your post doesn't apply to many people, just that it is possible to have a Bible-inspired belief that homosexuality is wrong.

However, my spouse and I both believe that even if homosexuality were to be 100% wrong, that it just puts them on par with all the rest of us who gossip and lust -- 2 opinions about which Christ was abundantly clear. We also both believe that since America has already turned marriage into a civil union with regard to legal rights to inherit, visit children, have tax benefits, etc. that unless America can separate civil marriage from religious marriage, that all people, including homosexuals ought to be able to get married. Even a belief that homosexuality is immoral does not mean that hate or ill treatment must follow or that logic should go out the window.
